If you’ve ever wanted to escape the busy Cape Town buzz and see the West Coast the way the locals do, then you’re in the right place. My name is Barry, and I’ve been surfing for about 38 years. I’m also an SSA Accredited Surf Coach with more than 25 years of coaching experience, so you’re in safe hands, whether you’ve never touched a surfboard or you’re already carving like a pro.
I’ve spent the last few years really getting to know every bend, every beach, every little hidden gem between Blouberg and Melkbosstrand. Now I’m opening up the journey to travelers who want more than just a quick surf lesson, people who want a full experience.
So What Exactly Is a West Coast Surf Experience Tour?
It’s simple:
A full-day adventure designed to show you the magic of the West Coast through a surfer’s eyes.
I’ll pick you up directly from your accommodation anywhere in Cape Town, and from there we head up the coast for a chilled, unforgettable day. No rush. No tight schedule. Just good waves, good vibes and discovering spots only locals usually know about.
Here’s what the day looks like:
🏄♂️ Surfing, Your Way
Absolute beginner? I’ll teach you how to paddle, pop-up and have loads of fun in a safe enviroment.
Intermediate or advanced? We chase the best waves of the day. I’ll guide you through different spots along the West Coast, help refine your technique, and push your surfing to the next level.
🍽️ Local Hidden Gems
Once the surf session is done (and your stoke levels are high), I’ll take you to some of the West Coast’s favourite small restaurants, the places most tourists never find. Rustic beach cafés, ocean-view lunch spots, and chilled hangouts where the locals refuel after a surf.
🌊 Scenic Stops & Good Vibes
Between surfing and eating, we explore the coastline, take photos, enjoy the views, and soak in the laid-back atmosphere that makes this side of Cape Town so special.
🍎 Snacks Included
I keep the energy going throughout the day with snacks and refreshments. Meals and drinks at restaurants are for your own account, and if you need surf equipment, I can organize that at an extra cost.
The Price: R5,500 per person for a full-day West Coast Surf Experience
This covers:
- Pick-up and drop-off from your accommodation
- Full guided surf coaching or surf guiding
- West Coast exploration stops

- A full day with a coach who’s surfed here for nearly four decades
(Equipment rental and restaurant meals are not included.)
